April 9, 2018 Presentation
Handouts/Announcements:
Update on LD 1709 from Jennifer Putnam:
LD 1709, the Maine Developmental Services Oversight and Advisory Board (MDSOAB) legislation sponsored by Representative Jennifer Parker which would give the MDSOAB access to reports to which it is already supposed to have access per existing statute, passed in the House and Senate. It is expected that the Governor will veto the bill. There are an additional 11 votes needed to override the veto and get the bill passed. This is doable!! Click here for a list of the Representatives who voted NO. Do you know any of these individuals? Are they your representatives? If so, please reach out to them by sending an email and telling them how important LD 1709 is and why. Then, follow up with a phone call! Click here for an alphabetical list of Representatives and their contact information.
In a nutshell, “The board is entitled to access to information from the department necessary to carry out its functions.” The MDSOAB needs access to records in order to provide oversight and to advise the Department as already written in statute. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) reports clearly state that Maine needs to protect individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism and the MDSOAB plays a vital and unique role in that process.
If you reach out to anyone successfully, please let me know by sending me a quick email ([email protected]), as we are tracking vote totals.
Thank you,
Jennifer
