Maine Disability Alerts - Please ask your Representative and Senator to co-sign a letter about COVID vaccine prioritization

1/26/2021

Dear Friends of Mainers with Disabilities,

Please ask your state representative and state senator to co-sign a letter that Rep Laurie Osher is circulating about prioritizing family members living with people at risk for bad COVID outcomes (especially children at risk who are too young for the vaccine).

The letter does the following:
  • It outlines the scientific evidence of increased risk of bad COVID outcomes among people with Down syndrome and among Mainers with intellectual disabilities, autism, brain injury, and other related conditions (people receiving Section 18, 20, 21, and 29 services and supports).
  • It notes that there are children at increased risk who can’t get the vaccine because they’re too young.
  • It asks Gov Mills and Dr Shah to follow California’s example by including family members who live with people at such increased risk in vaccine priority group 1a in order to form a protective bubble around people at risk, especially children at risk who are too young to take the vaccine.
You can get your representative’s email address at: https://legislature.maine.gov/.../MemberProfiles/ListEmail

You can get your senator’s email address at https://legislature.maine.gov/sen.../find-your-state-senator

Thank you!
