Maine Disability Alerts - Please ask legislators not to finish without addressing workforce and wait list

6/17/2021

Dear Friends of Mainers with Disabilities,

The workforce (LD 1573) and wait list (LD 1360) bills have both passed the House and have survived several votes in the Senate. But they are both now sitting on the "Special Appropriations Table". If they are not funded (either by themselves or by being "amended into the budget" then they will die). And there still isn't agreement on a budget.

Please contact members of Appropriations, House and Senate leadership, and your own rep and senator, to ask them to PLEASE MAKE SURE TO FUND WORKFORCE (LD 1573) and WAITLIST (LD 1360) BILLS BEFORE THEY GO HOME, because there is still an acute crisis in supporting people with disabilities, along with other vulnerable populations (elders, substance use, mental health).

  • To get your own rep's contact info, go to https://legislature.maine.gov/house/house/MemberProfiles/ListAlphaTown , scroll down to your town, and click on "View" under the "Member Profile" column (if you happen to be in a town with more than one rep then you can click on view under the "District Map" column to first figure out which rep is yours)
  • To get your own senator's contact info, go to http://legislature.maine.gov/senate-home-page/find-your-state-senator , scroll down to your town, and click on the name of the senator for that town (maps avail at https://legislature.maine.gov/senate/district-listing/9526 if there's more than one senator for your town or city)
  • (If you happen to be in Portland, the district maps at https://www.portlandmaine.gov/DocumentCenter/View/4069/Voting-Districts-With-Side-Panels-36x42?bidId= are a good one-stop shop to figure out your house and senate district #s)
thank you!
