Join Maine Parent Federation for a Virtual Parent Support Group. These meetings are intended to provide a confidential opportunity to connect parents who have children with special healthcare needs or disabilities. MPF staff will be available to answer your questions, hear your concerns, and provide helpful resources for you and your family.

Maine Parent Federation teams up with the Division Vocational Rehabilitation to bring you:  “Celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month: Increasing Access and Opportunities for Youth with Disabilities In Maine”
 
Join Maine’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired along with special guests as they highlight how Maine is partnering to help youth and young adults with disabilities get started early on the pathway to employment. Learn about new virtual resources, school partnerships, and youth employment success across the state.

Youth Taking Action Part 2/4:
Maine Parent Federation has partnered with Maine Youth Action Network, and Penquis Community Action Agency to create a virtual space for youth and young adults with disabilities (14-26). In this series of training we will discuss topics that are important for individuals to be self-advocates and youth leaders. In Part 1 we discussed the importance of having good values. In Part 2 we will discuss the importance of discerning fact from opinion when making decisions for yourself. We hope to see you there!

Federation in collaboration with NAMI Maine is offering a free training for parents:
Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid Presented by: NAMI Maine
Friday, October 30, 2020 @ 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, and caregivers how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders.
